ROCKINGHAM — On Saturday, Dec. 13 at noon, the General Henry William Harrington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a National Wreaths Across America Day ceremony at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham.
The ceremony honored the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. Mayor of Rockingham John Hutchinson and General Henry William Harrington Chapter Regent Melissa Wall welcomed everyone and emphasized the importance of remembrance and community involvement.
Local vocalist Gabby Lutz opened the program with a moving rendition of the national anthem. AMVETS Post 316 presented the Color and Honor Guard for the ceremony, and veterans and students, including Richmond Senior High School JROTC cadets, placed wreaths representing the branches of the United States military during the ceremony.
Cmdr. Joseph Fitzgerald, U.S. Navy (retired), served as the guest speaker and delivered remarks reflecting on military service, remembrance, and the importance of honoring those who have worn the nation’s uniform. His words reinforced the mission of Wreaths Across America to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach future generations the value of freedom.
Following the ceremony, 547 wreaths were placed in remembrance at Eastside Cemetery.
Sharon Hutchinson, organizer for the event, and the General Henry William Harrington Chapter DAR extends its gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and community members who helped make the ceremony a meaningful tribute to those who served.
