ROCKINGHAM — A busy summer schedule of local youth sports development got a little busier this week.
The Richmond Senior High School wrestling program announced the return of its summer camp, which will be back for the fourth straight year.
Part of the vision set forth by head coach Andre’ Ellerbe when he took over the program four years ago, this year’s camp will continue to build a stronger foundation for local wrestling.
The five-day camp will be held at Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20. Each daily session will last from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Offered to boys and girls, the co-ed camp is for students who are rising third graders through ninth graders. The cost per camper is $60.

Ellerbe noted that it’s a “summer camp for beginner and experienced wrestlers,” and that all levels of experience will benefit from attending.
Geared toward growing the community’s youth and middle school wrestling programs, the camp’s ultimate goal is to build a strong feeder program that will make Richmond successful in future seasons.
Ellerbe said campers can expect to learn about and work on proper offensive and defensive techniques from the three positions in wrestling (top, bottom and neutral).
Participants will also learn how to be attack and defensive wrestlers, as well as other fundamentals. For the more experienced wrestlers, individual skill sets will be developed.
On hand to help with the youngsters will be current and former members of the Richmond wrestling program.
