GREENSBORO — Another high-scoring outing by its senior leader paced the Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team to a win Friday.

The Lady Raiders extended their winning streak to seven games with their victory over Asheville School in the second of three games at the Carolina Christmas Classic hosted by Northwest Guilford High School.

Led by senior point guard Jamyia Lindsey, who earned her second “player of the game” recognition in as many games, led all scorers in the 43-36 victory.

Averaging 23.3 points per game this season, Lindsey finished with 25 points, her sixth game of at least 25 points in a dozen games this winter.

Head coach Taneika Reader noted it was a good team win “against a tough Asheville School” and that “this game tested our heart and composure in a great atmosphere.”

Entering the game, the Lady Blues (13-2) had won 13 of their first 14 games.

The end of the first quarter yielded a 7-6 lead for Richmond, which saw all of its scoring come from Lindsey. She netted a triple, a bucket and two free throws.

A slower second quarter resulted in just six points for the Lady Raiders, who entered halftime down 17-13. Lindsey and junior guard Jasiah Gilchrist, who was second on the team with 12 points, each connected on a three-pointer.

Using a 17-9 run in the third quarter, featuring nine points from Lindsey on the final two of her four triples and a trio of free throws, Richmond took control for good.

Gilchrist had four more points in the third, scoring a bucket and two shots from the line. Junior Olivia Brown and sophomore Madisen Jackson each scored two points.

Leading 30-26 entering the fourth stanza, Richmond closed the game on a 13-10 run.

Lindsey recorded her final six points and Gilchrist added five points. Senior Rena Drake scored one field goal to round out the team’s efforts.

Richmond (9-3) will close the holiday showcase Saturday against Marvin Ridge High School (8-3) at 1:30 p.m.
