Suspect arrested in Hamlet shooting; accomplice remains unidentified

HAMLET — One man suspected of shooting into a home earlier this month is in custody.

Kamarie Javon Morrison, 18, is one of two men caught on camera firing shots into a home on Seaboard Street around 10 p.m. April 7, according to investigators with the Hamlet Police Department.

No injuries were reported, but police say the home was damaged.

Investigators say they are still working to identify the second suspect.

Records with the Richmond County Jail show Morrison was arrested and booked at 4:43 p.m. April 21. He is charged with: attempted first-degree murder; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; discharging a firearm into an occupied property; carrying a concealed gun; and damage to real property.

Investigators say Morrison also had outstanding warrants from a previous domestic violence case, accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

Morrison is also charged with misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, battery of an unborn child and assault by pointing a gun.

He is being held on a combined $300,000 secured bond: $250,000 in the shooting case; $50,000 in the domestic violence case. He has court dates scheduled for May 6 and May 9.

Online records show Morrison has no pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
