ROCKINGHAM — More than 120 runners bolted down the hill of Lawrence Street Saturday morning in the inaugural SpringFest Fun Run and 5K.

The event, held in conjunction with SpringFest at the Rock, was organized by and benefits FirstHealth’s Richmond Memorial Foundation and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham, much like its predecessor, the Run for the Ribbons.

The “challenging” course took the 127 runners — ranging in age from 7 to 78 — through the hilly streets of downtown Rockingham and along Hitchcock Creek, starting and ending at DPK.

Neil Robinette, CEO of C.F. Smith Property Group, was the first runner to make it back across the finish line with a clock time of 21:08:01, taking first place overall and in the overall male category.

James Coicou, 16, of Fayetteville was just over three minutes behind and placed first in the Male 15-19 division and second overall. Rachel Eley, 26, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was sixth overall and won best overall female.
