OBITUARY: Flora Shepard Batton Brown

Flora Shepard Batton Brown, 92, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Atrium Health Stanly Hospital, Albemarle.

She was born Jan. 31, 1932 in Union County, daughter of the late James Shepard and Sallie Louise Parker Shepard.

Flora worked in textiles in her earlier years. She attended Outreach for Jesus and was passionate in her faith and loved the Lord. She was known for her happy, upbeat personality and was a lot of fun. She loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. She was a joy and a light to everyone around her. Flora loved her family dearly, especially her children and grandchildren. She not only was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, but also a wonderful person.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Robert Batton and Keith Terry Brown; children, Jackie Elaine Moore, James Robert Batton Jr. and Deborah Lynn Glaze; sisters, Mable Mitchum and Nellie Mae Wood; and stepson, Keith Brown Jr.

Flora is survived by her daughters, Brenda Louise Brown (Dale) of Rockingham and Donna Christina Wall (Dallas) of Little River; stepchildren, Jackie Whitley and Terry Rainwater, both of Rockingham, Tammie Gibson of Ellerbe and Freddie Harper of Lancaster; grandchildren, Wendy Wool (Daniel) of Little River, South Carolina, Sandra Smith (David) of Hamlet, Katina Jordan (Johnnie) of Hamlet, Matthew Gainey (Lauren) of Richmond County, Robert Heaton (Shannon) of West End, Brandon Miller (Jocelyn) of Fayetteville, Christopher Miller (Kimberly) of Wendell, Jamie Batton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sean Batton (Danielle) of Fayetteville, Jessica Batton of Fayetteville, Chadwick Williams (Heather) of Dallas, Texas, and Justin Williams of Rockingham; 28 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 2-3 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The funeral service will begin, immediately following visitation, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Northam Cemetery.
