OBITUARY: Marie Hodges Quick

Marie Hodges Quick, 87, of Hamlet, completed her earthly journey and went to be with her Lord, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, in Rockingham, with her family gathered around her beside, singing her favorite songs to guide her to her heavenly home.

She was born Feb. 23, 1937 to the late Henry and Shadie Hodges of Hamlet.

Marie was a lifelong, faithful member of Nebo Wesleyan Church. She loved to sing in the church choir and was a member of the Gospel Echoes. She also held several offices within the church and directed many church Christmas plays.

She retired from Birmingham Drug Store after 60 years. She enjoyed serving her community, forming special relationships, and making many friends.

She was a quiet, soft-spoken woman with a kind, compassionate and generous heart. She also had an adventurous spirit from driving race cars to taking a helicopter ride. She was also a big fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Marie had no children of her own but to many she was a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was affectionately known as Aunt “Re” to many in her family. She was loved by so many and will be missed beyond measure. We were so blessed that we had her in our lives.

Marie is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Edward Quick, who was waiting for her at Heaven’s gate with their cat, Yellow Belle. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest Hodges, June Hodges and Richard Hodges; sisters, Bea Paul and Jean Laughridge; and several nephews and niece.

Marie is survived by her brothers, Buck Hodges (Barbara) of Rockingham and Harold Hodges (RosaLee) of Texas; sister, Gloria Reaves of Rockingham; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and adopted as her own.
