OBITUARY: Louise Weatherly

On Saturday, May 4, Louise Weatherly, 93, of Hamlet, went to be with her Lord peacefully holding the hand of her youngest daughter.

She was born in Hamlet to the late Edwin James Kelly and Maggie McRae Kelly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Weatherly; and her sister, Alene K. Hampton.

Louise graduated from Hamlet High School in 1950 after marrying her high school sweetheart, Harold. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and had deep roots to Marks Creek Presbyterian Church, where she attended for many years.

Louise played the piano and organ. She and Harold would visit local nursing facilities where she would play the keyboard as he sang to the residents.

She is survived by her children: Rick Weatherly (Betsy) of Burlington, Carole Rivers (Bill) of Fairview, Debra Hoffman (Danny) of Tarboro, and Denise Arnold (Paul) of Laurinburg; grandchildren: Richard Weatherly (Janice), of Burlington, Gresham Weatherly (Stephanie) of Libertyville, Illinois, Anne Payne (Thomas) of Raleigh, Will Rivers (Patience) of Fairview, Isaac Arnold (Devon) of Brooklyn, New York, and Amy Arnold of Greenville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Elise Von Hagen (Erich), Annie Weatherly, Hugh Weatherly, Jayden Rivers, Mary Weatherly, Rose Rivers and Ben Rivers; brothers-in-law, Larry Weatherly (Michele) and Bob Weatherly; and many nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Second Baptist Church of Hamlet. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Hawks and the Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Entombment at Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum will follow the funeral.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals at Scottish Pines Rehab, Scotland Memorial Hospital, and Morrison Manor of Scotland County Hospice for their compassionate care for Louise.
