OBITUARY: Mary Shepherd Gaddy Trexler

WADESBORO — On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Mrs. Mary Shepherd Gaddy Trexler, 99, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home.

Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Heather McIntyre and Mr. Ken Caulder officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home on Saturday and other times at the home.

Mary Shep was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Anson County, and was a daughter of the late David Eugene Gaddy and the late Lilly Belle Shepherd Gaddy. She was a graduate of Deep Creek High School, and she was most proud of her upbringing and family ties to the Deep Creek Community.

She was retired from West Knitting Mills in Wadesboro with more than 30 years of service. She and her late husband both exemplified a strong work ethic before their children and grandchildren. She proved a hard day’s work was good for anyone.

Mary Shep was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro for more than 70 years, where she had been a part of the choir and Presbyterian women’s circle. She was first introduced to a community of faith as a child at Union Methodist Church where she was baptized, and this place still held a special place in her heart throughout the years. Her parents and her brothers and sisters were later a part of Camden Presbyterian Church, where, as a young girl she played the piano. Music and faith have always been a treasured part of her life.
