Kylie Hood: The Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week

ROCKINGHAM — Senior cheerleader Kylie Hood has been named the Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.

With the football season just past its halfway point, Hood and the Richmond Senior High School cheerleading team spent last Friday at Southern Lee High School. A shortened week this week will see Hood and the team at Pinecrest High School Thursday.

A four-year cheerleader who has been on varsity since her freshman year, Hood earned her second career Student-Athlete of the Week recognition. She was also named during basketball season as a junior.

“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH KYLIE HOOD

Actively involved in extracurriculars at Richmond, Hood’s main focus is her academics. She’s a dual enrollment student at the high school and Richmond Community College. 

This semester Hood is taking seven classes — five at RichmondCC and two at the high school. 

At the college she’s in Communications 231 (public speaking), English 112, Politics 120 (American Government), Spanish 211 and ACA 122 (college transfer success). 

Spending two blocks a day at the high school, Hood is taking Economics and Personal Finance Honors and Annual Production Honors. 

Hood has a cumulative 4.21 weighted grade point average, is the senior senate president, serves as an editor of the yearbook and is involved in National Beta Club 

“I like yearbook class a lot because I like the media side of it,” Hood explained. “That class makes me want to come to school and it’s what I’m interested in doing after high school.

“My goal is to attend the Hussman School of Journalism at UNC and study sports broadcasting,” she added. “I grew up around football and other sports and I’m very sports-oriented. I took media journalism in 10th grade and really enjoyed it. It was then I found something I love to do.”
