The Week Ahead: 3 senior nights planned

ROCKINGHAM — The fall sports season will roll over into its second full month starting Monday. 

All of Richmond Senior High School’s six sports programs will compete, with three of them also celebrating senior night. 

Boys’ soccer hosts senior night

A three-match week for the Raiders (1-9-2, 0-3-1 SAC) starts with senior night Monday against Scotland High School (2-5-2, 0-5 SAC). That game, set for 6 p.m., will mark the end of the first round of Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Richmond will then host Southern Lee High School (12-1, 4-0 SAC) Wednesday at 7 p.m. and non-conference Sun Valley High School (4-9-1) Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The junior varsity soccer team (6-4-2, 3-0-1 SAC) will only play one match against Southern Lee. Kickoff is set for Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Volleyball honoring senior players

The Lady Raiders (6-11, 2-7 SAC) will play their final two-match week of the regular season, beginning Tuesday at Union Pines High School (10-6, 4-4 SAC). 

Thursday will recognize the team’s senior players ahead of a home match with Lee County High School (10-5, 4-4 SAC). Both varsity matches will start at 6 p.m.

In JV action, Richmond (7-9, 4-5 SAC) will start both of its matches at 5 p.m. at Union Pines and home against Lee County.

Cross country programs also set for senior night

The Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will return to their home course at Hinson Lake Tuesday. 

Hosting Pinecrest and Scotland high schools, the Raiders and Lady Raiders will hold senior night prior to the two races. 

The first race will go off at 5 p.m. followed by the second race at 5:30 p.m.

Tennis team wraps regular season

Becoming the first team to see its regular season come to an end, the Lady Raiders (3-6, 3-6 SAC) will play its final match this week. 

An off day Tuesday will be followed by a road match at Scotland Thursday. Singles play is set to start at 4 p.m.

Golf begins full matches

The Lady Raider golf team will look to continue its early-season momentum Monday. 

Two nine-hole matches last week lead into the team’s first 18-hole match. Richmond will tee off at Deercroft at 2 p.m.

Football returns home for Hoke County

A two-week hiatus from its home stadium comes to an end for the Raider football team (4-2, 2-0 SAC) this week. 

Richmond will look to stay perfect in conference play when Hoke County (1-5, 0-2 SAC) makes the trip to Rockingham Friday. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

The JV Raiders (4-2, 1-1 SAC) will try to rebound from a loss. They will travel to Hoke County Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
