LAURINBURG — Wednesday saw the six Sandhills Athletic Conference girls’ golf teams play their second respective round in a week for the first time this season.

The nine-hole affair was played at Scotch Meadows Country Club, hosted by Scotland High School, and like the previous five matches, the standings followed the same script. Richmond Senior High School and head coach Keith Parsons would finish fourth overall.

The Lady Raiders’ top four golfers who saw their individual score included in the final team tally were senior Hailey Miller, sophomore Kenleigh Frye, sophomore Kirsten McDonald and junior Delaney Driggers. As a unit, Richmond posted a team score of 228 (+84).

Finishing at the top of the scorecard was Pinecrest High School, whose top four golfers shot a 157 (+13). The Lady Patriots were followed by Jack Britt High School (193, +49) and Purnell Swett High School (207, +63). Behind the Lady Raiders were Scotland (234, +90) and Lumberton High School (241, +97).

Having her best round of the season was Frye, who shot a 50 (+14), which was a new season low. That was a stroke better than her round at Bayonet Golf Course on Monday. In the last three matches, Frye has taken five strokes off her golf game.

“I’m really happy for Kenleigh, who has set a season low again,” Parsons said. “She’s got it going on right now, doing everything a little bit better.”

Leading the way for Richmond was Miller with a 49 (+13). It was an uncharacteristic afternoon for the senior, who has been posting scores in the low 40s the last handful of matches as she attempts to make a return to the NCHSAA state tournament for the third-straight season.

McDonald matched her season-low round with a 60 (+24), and Driggers saw her score come in at 69 (+33).

“I’m happy with everyone for digging in a bit today,” Parsons noted. “We fought through some struggles to post a score better than Scotland for fourth, even though it was their home course.”

The Lady Raiders will compete in their final regular-season match next Monday at Pinehurst No. 5. The round will be played as an 18-hole match, starting at 2 p.m.
