ROCKINGHAM – In this week’s edition of the RO’s exclusive “Local Business Spotlight” column, contributor Cleve Baxley meets with Vickie Daniel, who is employed at the Clerk of Superior Court, located at 105 W. Franklin Street in Rockingham.
In encouraging the successes of local small businesses, the RO uses a question-and-answer format to highlight what local businesses are doing in the community.
The Clerk of Superior Court is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Below is the conversation between Baxley and Daniel:
How many employees do you have and who are they?
“We have 20 employees, including myself,” Daniel said. “ They include: Crystal Hunsucker, Susann Honeycutt, Beth Pettitt, Annette McNeill, Vikki Burns, Ronda Webb, April Morman, Yvette Potts, Shannon McIntyre, Stacey Sweatt, Kim Blake, Teresa Brown, Kim McGee, Courtney Brown, Allison Usrey, Linda Byrd, Tobi Long, Joy Gilchrist and Nikki Freeman”
What services do you provide?
“We issue all court processes,” Daniel explained. “We process district criminal, superior criminal, small claims, district civil, superior civil, juvenile court and child support court proceedings. We also process Enforcement of Child Support Orders and Domestic Violence 50-B Ex Parte Orders.
“Other services we provide are sets attorney fees, change of name proceedings, adoptions, and petitions to open adoptions,” Daniel continued.
Daniel noted that the Clerk of Court also does special proceedings appointment of magistrates, and the jury pool system. Her and her coworkers are responsible in administering estates less than $5,000, audits accounts of fiduciaries, foreclosures, attachments, claim and delivery hearings, estates of deceased persons, minors and incompetents.
The Clerk’s office is the central repository for all court and various documents.
What do you enjoy most about being Clerk of Court?
“I enjoy being a public servant and helping people,” Daniel said.
What is something about the Clerk’s Office that people might not know?
“We are a passport acceptance facility,” Daniel said. “And we are also state employees under the Department of the Administrative Office of the Courts.”
