FAYETTEVILLE — The Richmond Senior High School wrestling team lost a pair of matches during Wednesday’s tri-match.
The Raiders competed against non-conference South View High School and Sandhills Athletic Conference opponent Jack Britt High School. Richmond fell to South View 72-12 and lost to Jack Britt 66-12.
Forfeits continued to play a role in the outcome of the matches, as Richmond surrendered seven forfeits (42 points) to the Buccaneers and eight forfeits (48 points) to the Tigers.
Freshman Aiden Rountree was the lone Raider to earn points in both of his matches. The 113-pounder earned forfeit victories to collect six points in each match for Richmond.
Against Jack Britt, senior Michael DeMay was also awarded a forfeit in the 145-pound match. Rountree is now 12-4 on the season, while DeMay improved to 7-7.
The only Richmond wrestler to earn a pinfall victory was freshman Braxton Jenks in the 160-pound match against South View. He pinned Jermari Parks to the mat 1:15 into the second round, and now holds a 6-6 record.
Head coach Richard Kerekes noted that several of the team’s starters were not available for Wednesday’s matches.
Now 8-8 overall, and 4-4 against SAC opponents, the Raiders will look to return to the win column next Tuesday. Richmond will face non-conference Montgomery Central High School at home, starting at 6 p.m.
