2 sought in East Rockingham shooting

Shaquan Hykeem Chambers (pictured) of East Rockingham and Jishen Shyheim Dumas of Laurel Hill are wanted for attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting June 18.

ROCKINGHAM — Two men are wanted in connection with a shooting last week outside a convenience store.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that warrants have been issued for the arrest of 23-year-old Shaquan Hykeem Chambers of East Rockingham and 19-year-old Jishen Shyheim Dumas of Laurel Hill for attempted first-degree murder and other charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy was flagged down around 5:40 p.m. June 18 at Henna Corner, at the intersection of Mill Road and Long Drive.

The deputy soon discovered that a shooting had just happened in the parking lot and that one person was injured, according to investigators. The victim was treated and released at a local hospital.

A white car was loaded onto a rollback and several evidence markers were seen in the parking lot.

Investigators say Dumas was driving a red Kia four-door, which has damage to the right front of the vehicle and a missing rear bumper.

The case is still under investigation and deputies are working to identify a third person in the vehicle.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, both are charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Chambers is also charged with going armed to the terror of the public.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is encouraged to call 911 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety show Chambers was convicted in 2015 of misdemeanor larceny in Wake County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
