Yvonne Dunn Gibson

ROCKINGHAM — Yvonne Dunn Gibson, 71, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 20, 2021.

She was born in Rockingham on Oct. 25, 1949 to James Bernard Dunn and Lillian Kelly Dunn.

Yvonne was a devoted homemaker who fiercely gave her all while raising a family with the love of her life, Rodney Lee Gibson Sr.

Rodney recalls the first time he saw Yvonne when he was just a young boy, walking down the street. He looked over and saw Yvonne swinging and thought to himself, “She sure is a beautiful girl.” A few years later, they began courting and were married on Sept. 3, 1965.

Yvonne was the family’s biggest cheerleader and constant supporter. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mammy.” She was dedicated to bringing the family together for the holidays and was committed to build a life full of special memories with her loved ones.

She was an avid cook and baker. When her grandchildren were visiting, she was always teaching them a new recipe and never sent them home without her yummy goodies. The family will miss her decadent thin-layer chocolate cake and her famous “Mammy’s” spaghetti.
