Pair charged with cocaine trafficking following chase with Rockingham Police

ROCKINGHAM — A man and woman are accused of trafficking in crack cocaine following a chase with police last week.

According to warrants, a Rockingham Police officer attempted to stop 20-year-old Daquan Malik Ingram, of Cauthen Drive, on May 6.

Instead of stopping, Ingram allegedly led officers down Rockingham Road, Pickett Street, Williams Street, Mial Street and Armstead Street.

According to one warrant, Ingram was driving 15 mph in excess of the speed limit and with a revoked license.

Ingram is also accused of attempting to strike one officer’s patrol car with the 2017 Toyota Yaris he was driving.

Police reportedly found 49.7 grams of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana, as well as a Masterpiece 9mm handgun. Ingram is barred from having a firearm due to previous conviction.

Ingram was arrested and charged with: fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; assault with a deadly weapon on a government official; trafficking in cocaine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; possession of a firearm by a felon; and simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.

Ingram also has several traffic citations including driving with revoked license, driving left of center and multiple counts of failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 3:31 the following morning where he remains under a $200,000 secured bond.

Police also charged 22-year-old Peggy Jean McDonald, of Brooks Avenue, with one felony count each of trafficking in cocaine; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. (Since she has been released, her mugshot was not available Tuesday.)

McDonald, who was being held under a $150,000 secured bond, was released on bail May 10, court records show.

Both are scheduled to appear in court May 27.

Ingram was convicted in Wake County of larceny from the person and misdemeanor possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance in 2018, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

He spent five months behind bars only to be locked back up less than three months later on a post-release revocation.

Records show McDonald has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
