RCSO: Ellerbe woman wanted for cashing stolen checks crashes near Hamlet after chase

ROCKINGHAM — A woman accused of stealing checks has been charged after allegedly leading deputies on a chase and wrecking south of Hamlet.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were looking for 22-year-old Holleigh Kristine Guinn, of Ellerbe, on April 27.

Charges had been filed against Guinn for allegedly stealing checks and cashing them at various locations.

Deputies attempted to pull Guinn over while she was driving on South Street in East Rockingham, but when the blue lights and sirens were activated, Guinn reportedly refused to stop and the deputies followed in pursuit until she crashed on Battley Dairy Road.

Guinn was arrested and charged with: three counts of fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; possession of stolen goods or property; larceny of chose in action; injury to real property; resisting a public officer; giving fictitious information to an officer; and reckless driving to endanger.

She was also thrice cited for failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light and charged with a probation violation.

Guinn was booked into the Richmond County Jail where she is being held on a combined $217,500 secured bond. She has court dates scheduled for May 11, 15, 18.

Online court records show several other traffic citations, as well as charges of driving while license revoked, breaking and entering motor vehicles and felony larceny.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Guinn (whose first name is spelled “Holliegh” in state records) was convicted in July 2022 of felony breaking and entering in Scotland County and given a 24-month suspended sentence.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
