Richmond County deputies charge homeless woman with trespassing, resisting, meth possession

ROCKINGHAM — A homeless woman will likely spend her birthday in the Richmond County jail.

Gladys Marie Warren, who turns 27 on Friday, was arrested without a warrant Wednesday for allegedly trespassing on a posted property on Mill Road.

Warren, whose address is listed as “STREETS OF ROCKINGHAM,” also reportedly possessed an unspecified amount of meth, and pulled away from Deputy W.K. Smith during the arrest, who was investigating the trespassing call, according to a magistrate’s order.

Warren is charged with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine and one misdemeanor count each of second-degree trespassing and resisting a public officer.

She is being held under a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 20.

Online court records show she has no other pending charges.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Warren has previous convictions in three Sandhills counties.

Warren was first convicted in 2014 of misdemeanor larceny and possessing stolen goods in Cumberland County.

The following year, she was convicted of first-degree trespassing and misdemeanor larceny in Scotland County.

Records show that in September 2018, Warren was convicted of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance in Richmond County. Her probation was revoked in November of that year and spent three months behind bars; then again in July 2019.

Her parole ended Feb. 19, 2020.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
