PRAISE IN THE PARKING LOT: 2nd Chance Ministries brings gospel to the Cole

Southern gospel group 2nd Chance Ministries performs at Cole Auditorium Oct. 15. See more photos at the bottom of this post.

HAMLET — Southern Gospel trio 2nd Chance Ministries took the stage in front of Cole Auditorium Thursday evening for the latest installment in the fall “Car”cert series.

The South Carolina-based group opened with Hank Williams’ “I Saw the Light,” before continuing with a series of songs giving praise to God.

The lineup was a little different, with Ricky Malloy and Brandon Gainey joined by Brittany Mathers, Malloy’s cousin, who was filling in for singer Gabe Malloy.

2nd Chance Ministries will be back in Richmond County on Saturday, Oct. 17 in a benefit concert for the family of the late Pastor Ricky Jacobs.

The concert was planned before Jacobs’ death on Oct. 3.

Two other gospel groups, Next Chapter of Laurinburg and the Bobby Deal Family of Lumberton, will also be performing.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church, 573 Battley Dairy Road, Rockingham.

Seats will be spaced apart for social distancing and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

They can also remain in their vehicles and listen to the concert on the radio.

A love offering will be taken up for the Jacobs family.

There are two remaining concerts in the “car”cert series in the coming weeks:

  • Friday, Oct. 23 – bluegrass band The Axe Handlers
  • Friday, Oct. 30 – 80s throwback band Cassette Rewind, with Richmond County native Brandon Kirkley
