3 more COVID-19 cases confirmed for Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM – Three new cases of COVID-19 have been ;ab-confirmed for Richmond County, health officials announced late Thursday morning.

According to Health and Human Services Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell, the new cases are believed to be community spread, which means the patients were not in direct contact with a known case.

Two of the patients are hospitalized and the other is on home quarantine, Jarrell said.

This brings the county’s total to five cases. The first two are both believed to have contracted the coronavirus outside of the county.

“The Richmond County Health Department is encouraging everyone, especially with the upcoming Easter weekend, to avoid any gathering exceeding 10 people and to practice social distancing of 6 feet when together with other individuals,” Jarrell said. “In addition, everyone should wash hands very frequently throughout the day, use hand sanitizer and avoid touching face with hands.

“Let’s all look forward to our return to family and friend get-togethers once we are past this crisis.”
