Single-Vehicle Rollover Sends Driver to Hospital
HAMLET – Hamlet Fire Rescue was paged to a single-vehicle accident on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. on McDonald Avenue near Betty Brooks Boulevard.
The vehicle was a red Kia Soul, with the only occupant being the driver.
An eyewitness stated that, “after bouncing off the embankment, the driver was thrown from the vehicle,” as it continued to roll multiple times before stopping in the middle of the road, resting on its roof.
The driver was transported to a local hospital by Hamlet Rescue with multiple lacerations. There was also significant damage done to the vehicle’s structure. There is no word of the driver’s condition at this time.
Other Agencies assisting Hamlet Fire Rescue were the Hamlet Police Department and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. HPD is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
Vehicles Collide at Entrance to Truck Stop on Highway 1 South; Three Sent to Hospital
EAST ROCKINGHAM – Rescue crews in Cordova were also Sunday afternoon, as crews responded to a collision at the entrance to the Quik Check Truck Stop located in Highway 1 South near the US 74 Bypass.
According to one responder, “the driver of a Ford SUV tried to cross the highway and was struck by a (small) silver SUV.”

The driver of the black SUV, as well as two occupants of the silver SUV, were transported to a local hospital by FirstHealth Richmond EMS and Cordova Fire Rescue. No updates were available at the time of this publication.
Agencies responding to the scene were East Rockingham Fire Department, Cordova Fire Rescue, FirstHealth Richmond EMS and North Carolina Highway Patrol.
