ROCKINGHAM – Estate planning seminars for owners of farmland and/or their affiliated families will be offered by the local extension offices of Moore, Lee and Richmond counties in early March.

These workshops (which are free and open to the public) will address issues such as retirement planning for farmers and land managers; asset management; family decision-making; and transfer of property to non-family members.

The presenters and advisors are tax and law specialists from NC State University and will be available for questions at no cost to the attendees.

One such advisor is Andrew Brannan, an extension assistant professor with NC State University.  Brannan has worked as an attorney in private law practice providing business and estate planning support to landowners who want to keep their farms, forests and other natural resource assets productive as they pass ownership to the next generation.

Another advisor is Guido van der Hoeven, an extension specialist and senior lecturer at NC State University.  Van der Hoeven has over thirty years of experience helping farm and timber landowners develop goals in relation to the transfer of management and/or ownership.  He works to blend the needs of the exiting generation with the aspirations of the incoming one.

Anyone can attend any meeting, regardless of their particular county of residence (e.g., a Richmond County resident may attend the Moore County meeting, etc.) so please note the respective registration sites, dates and times for all three of the sessions:
