ROCKINGHAM — Rep. Scott Brewer, D-Richmond, is hosting a virtual “Get Out the Vote Rally” next week, with several of Richmond County’s top Democrats slated as speakers.
According to a press release issued Wednesday, the event will take place at 7p.m. Oct. 20 on Zoom due to “safety concerns in response to the coronavirus pandemic.”
Joining Brewer will be Richmond County Sheriff James Clemmons, County Commissioner Tavares Bostic and N.C. Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin.
They are also expected to endorse Brewer, according to the release.
Brewer was appointed to the District 66 seat in the N.C. House of Representatives by Gov. Roy Cooper in 2019 when Ken Goodman was appointed to the N.C. Industrial Commission.
He faces Republican challenger Ben Moss, currently a Richmond County commissioner.
Goodwin, a Hamlet native, is again running for State Insurance Commissioner, a position he held for two consecutive terms and lost in the last election to Republican Mike Causey. He also previously represented Richmond County in the House, as did his late wife, Melanie Goodwin.
Members of the local Democratic Party will also be in attendance to sign up individuals interested in yard signs or volunteering, according to the release.
