ROCKINGHAM-  In the upcoming Democratic primary, Christian Cano is running against Dan McCready.  Both candidates are from Charlotte.

In his recent speech at the local Democratic Party Convention, Cano noted that he was the Democratic Party nominee in the 2016 election.  “We won Anson County, we won Richmond County and we won Robenson County…I’m not running against Robert Pittenger, I’m running against Dan McCready in the primary,” said Cano.

Cano suggested if Dan McCready wants to run against Pittenger, he should flip over to the Republican Party.  “I think its good enough to be a Democrat, there’s no reason we can’t run this race and win as a real Democrat.”

On healthcare, Cano said he supports Medicare for all.  On the subject of the environment he noted he is for stopping the “wood pellet situation” in Richmond County.  Cano also shared that he believes in states having the funding for quality education.

Cano said he has been in the workforce for 36 years and, according to him, that’s longer than Dan McCready has been alive.  “I’ve worked for hourly wages; I’ve taken care of a grandfather who was suffering from Alzheimers; I’ve actually lived with no insurance and I’ve taken care of my father when he had two heart attacks, so I know life experiences are very important,” Cano said.

According to Cano, he decided to run again in 2018 because his family can’t afford to have someone representing the Democratic Party that does not have those life experiences.  “We don’t have to act like a Republican to win this district,”  Cano said.
