HAMLET – The Hamlet Police Department reports that a misdemeanor driving while impaired charge resulted from a recent license checkpoint operation.

Devore Annette Womble, 46, of 131 Deering Street, Hamlet, was proceeding through an HPD midday license check station at Main and South Bridges at 11:40 p.m. on Friday, March 16th when indications of the consumption of alcohol were detected by the officer.

Subsequent breathalyzer/intoxilyzer tests, both roadside and stationary, were conducted and yielded a blood alcohol content (BAC) measure of 0.12.

NC state law denotes a BAC of .08 to be sufficient for a charge of driving while impaired.

Womble was processed through the magistrate’s office and released to a family member.

Her trial date was set for April 5th in Richmond County District Court.

A second DWI arrest was made in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 18th.

Jose Alberto Ortiz-Soriano, 24, of 130 Peachland Drive, Hamlet, was stopped by officers on Highway 74.

Ortiz-Soriano was subsequently charged with driving while impaired as well as driving with a fictitious driver license and resisting a public officer.

Ortiz-Sariano was processed through the Richmond County Jail with a $2500 secured bond and a trial date of April 5th in Richmond County District Court.
