Hamlet Police Department Reports an Arrest and Multiple Investigations

The Hamlet Police Department reports a recent arrest and is also asking for information in conjunction with several ongoing investigations.

The arrest was conducted on Sunday, February 4th at approximately 9:18 a.m. at the Speedway Convenience Store on West Hamlet Avenue.

Nicole Ieshia Douglas, 26, of 1702 Maplewood Lane, Greensboro, was operating a vehicle that was subjected to a traffic stop after running a stop sign at Pine Street and 177 North.

During the ensuing process it was noted that the odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle.   A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of 5.2 ounces of marijuana and a 9 millimeter handgun.

Douglas was charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.  She was also issued a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign. 

Douglas was transported to the Magistrate’s Office where a District Court trial date was set for March 15th.  Douglas is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a secured bond of $5000.

The tool box on a City of Hamlet maintenance truck was broken into while the truck was parked on city property near the Depot.  Tools and cleaning supplies were pilfered and the box itself was damaged.  It is believed the crime occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2nd.

A four-wheeler and a dirt bike were stolen from a residence on Pam Street sometime on Tuesday, January 30th.  A suspect has been identified but has not yet been located.

A suspect has been identified but not yet located in relation to a case of forgery and uttering.  A personal check was stolen from a Hamlet resident and forged in the amount of $150.  The check was passed at a bank in Rockingham on Tuesday, January 30th.

A Ford Explorer suffered significant damage to its exterior as a result of being “keyed” on Buttercup Drive.  It is believed that the crime occurred at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29th.
