ROCKINGHAM – Civil unrest in Haiti has forced several U.S. church groups to take shelter.
One local church group is among them.
Richmond Observer’s sister program Good Morning Sandhills was able to speak over the phone to Allison Farrah who is a leader for the local church group.
In the phone interview, Farrah notes that “everything is peaceful and calm” and that they are staying in a “…place that is gated and guarded…” and that they have “…been well fed…”.
Farrah noted that they were able to finish their mission work before the unrest began and that the group had been sheltered for 3 days at the time of the interview with Good Morning Sandhills (7-9-18).
According to the U.S. department of State’s website, U.S. citizens in Haiti are advised to shelter “in place” as the U.S. Embassy is not able to provide shelter.
The website also states that flights out of Haiti are overbooked but flights are still operating and no evacuation efforts are planned at the time that this article was written.
The local church group is scheduled to fly out Tuesday the 10th.
