ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man on parole is facing new charges and an increased bond after being charged in connection to a holdup earlier this month.
According to warrants, 25-year-old Traviyon Dyvonte Freeman, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, went into a video sweepstakes store on Oct. 5 with a handgun and robbed the place.
Freeman is accused of taking $1,200 in cash, a computer, modem and camera equipment.
A warrant charging him with robbery with a dangerous weapon was issued Oct. 10 and Freeman was arrested the following day.
Records show Freeman is charged with another count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping, but that warrant wasn’t available in the Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court’s office on Tuesday afternoon.
Court documents show the magistrate increased Freeman’s bond from $75,000 to $250,000 secured. He is currently being held in the Richmond County Jail.
Although it was noted that he waived extradition and has “been polite and cooperative,” paperwork indicates that Freeman is a validated gang member who is currently on parole and is considered a flight risk.
He was released from prison earlier this year after serving time for a 2016 conviction of robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
Records show he was incarcerated from Oct. 13, 2016 until March 4.
Records show a conviction on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury has been vacated.
Freeman is scheduled to appear in court on the robbery and kidnapping charges Oct. 24.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
