Man charged in East Rockingham homicide

ROCKINGHAM — A man is in the Richmond County Jail on a murder charge following a homicide early Wednesday.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call regarding an assault on Safie Third Street.

Deputies and EMS arrived on the scene and found the body of 37-year-old John Louis Grant.

Deputies arrested 22-year-old Patrick Ryan Grant and charged him with an open count of murder. He is currently being held without bond.

John Grant’s body has been sent to the N.C.Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Raleigh to determine a cause of death.

Online court records show the defendant already has pending felony counts of assault inflicting serious injury.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
