As the temperature dropped, a crowd gathered at Cole Plaza Tuesday evening for annual lighting of Rockingham’s Christmas tree.

Following a performance by students from L.J. Bell Elementary, Mayor John Hutchinson welcomed the crowd and introduced the guest tree-lighters: Rockingham Dragway owners Dan VanHorn and Al Gennarelli.

Gennarelli flipped the switch following a countdown from 10 and the tree lit up to applause.

This is the second municipal tree lighting of the 2023 season, with Hamlet kicking things off on Monday.
