Pinebluff man charged with murder in Hoffman homicide

HOFFMAN — A Moore County man has been charged in the murder of a Hamlet man found shot late Tuesday night.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 20-year-old Kiaya Carlton Jackson, of Pinebluff, from his home on Friday, according to a press release issued Saturday.

He is charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon and booked into the Richmond County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 5.

Jackson is accused of killing 24-year-old Nijamel Jaque Goodwin.

Investigators confirmed that Jackson is accused of robbing Goodwin, but have not yet released any more details related to that charge.

Sheriff’s deputies and EMS (FirstHealth EMS and Hoffman Rescue) responded to a call of a possible gunshot victim behind the Hoffman Community Center around 10:03 p.m.Tuesday where they found Goodwin with an apparent gunshot wound, according to the release.

Sheriff James Clemmons previously told the RO that Goodwin was deceased by the time they arrived.
