Police Investigate First Murder of 2018 in Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM – Midday Thursday, Rockingham police responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim. 

Arriving on the scene at a residence on Gore Drive at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers rendered assistance to the individual, but the victim unfortunately succumbed to the wound and was pronounced dead at FirstHealth Richmond Hospital.

Officers arrested Lanetta Peguese, 40, of Rockingham at the scene and charged her with one count of first degree murder. 

Peguese was transported to the Richmond County Jail where she is currently being held.  As is the norm for such charges, no bond was allowed.

Department of Public Safety records indicate no prior criminal history for Peguese.   

The name of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
