Public invited to Richmond County Board of Elections for demonstration of new voting machine

ROCKINGHAM ― Although the meetings of all elected boards are open to the public, the Richmond County Board of Elections is inviting voters to attend this month’s meeting.

Board members will see a demonstration of the new voting machines recently approved for purchase, according to Elections Director Connie Kelly.

Kelly said the new machine will be an optical-scan style, much like the ones currently in use.

The main difference is the way it stores information.

The current voting machines use a memory card, while the newer machines will use a flash drive, Kelly said.

Anyone who would like to see the new voting machine in use is encouraged to attend the meeting at the Board of Elections office, 221 S. Hancock St, Rockingham.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m.
