Richmond County announces 8th death attributed to COVID-19

ROCKINGHAM — The eighth death attributed to COVID-19 in Richmond County was reported late Tuesday morning by the Richmond County Health Department.

County Health and Human Services Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell said in a press release that his department was notified Tuesday that the patient died on Friday in a hospital outside the county.

“Please join us with your thoughts and prayers for this family today during this time of their loss,” he said.

According to Jarrell, have ranged from age 31 to 92.  

The county’s first death attributed to COVID-19 was reported on April 10; the second was on April 17; the third on May 30;  the fourth on June 8; the fifth on June 11.

The previous two were on June 29 and 30, making five total during June.

This is the first death reported this month.

As of Monday, 405 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since early April.

According to the Health Department, 2,902 results have been negative since testing began.

Of the county’s total, 120 are currently active, with 118 under home isolation and only two individuals admitted to a hospital.

The number of recoveries so far is 278 in Richmond County and an estimated 78,707 statewide.

Totals for Tuesday have not yet been released.
