Richmond County reports 38th COVID-related death

ROCKINGHAM — Local health officials on Thursday announced Richmond County’s 38th COVID-related death.

Health and Human Services Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell said in a press release that his office was informed of the death earlier in the day.

According to Jarrell, the unnamed patient died in a local hospital.

This makes the fourth death for the month of November. The Health Department reported 15 deaths occurred in October.

According to the Health Department, 27 have passed away in a hospital, eight have died in another healthcare setting and three have died outside of a health setting.

All patients have been between the ages of 31 and 95: 14 have been 80 or older; 11 have been in their 70s; nine in their 60s; three in their 50s; and one who was 31.

The race and gender breakdown is as follows: six African American females, four African American males, two American Indian males, 16 Caucasian females and 10 Caucasian males.

As of Nov. 11, there were 4,698 COVID-related deaths in the state, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Johns Hopkins University reports (as of noon Nov. 12) there have been 241,949 COVID-related deaths in the U.S. and 1,287,966 globally.

On Wednesday, DHHS announced a new one-day record, reporting 3,119 new cases of the coronavirus.

Richmond County has had 110 cases so far this month and 1,559 total.

The numbers for Thursday have not yet been released on either the state or local level.
