ROCKINGHAM – How many hearts does a worm have?  In layman’s terms, what is a sub-orbital hematoma?  What are the 5 most common last names in the United States of America as of the most recent census?

If you know the answers to these questions, or others like them, then the upcoming event from the Richmond Young Professionals might be just the event for you.

The Richmond Young Professionals, or RYP as they are often called, are a group of motivated professionals roughly between the ages of 21 and 40 who strive to provide opportunities for likeminded individuals to become involved with the local community.  Through their model of “work, play, give,” the organization endeavors to create networking, socializing, and volunteering opportunities for their members, and make Richmond County a place where young people will want to live and work for years to come.

Although the organization does just that through participating in and hosting events like the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, Pints and Politics, Chamber Chase, and the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball, perhaps the crowd favorite events are their bi-annual Pub Trivia Nights.

Carefully crafted to allow networking, socializing, and philanthropic opportunity all at once, the Pub Trivia Nights have proven to offer something for everyone.

At the event, individuals are given time to mingle with other attendees and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages before being assigned to teams and tackling the night’s toughest questions.

“At first, I wasn’t sure how much I’d like being assigned to a team,” remarked one RYP member.  “But I actually really enjoyed it.  I ended up on a team with a group of people I hadn’t met before, so it was a great opportunity to go outside of my comfort zone and meet some new people.”

To add an element of philanthropy to the event, RYP holds the event at venues all across the county as a way to showcase a few of the area’s hidden gems, and to entice people to visit somewhere they ordinarily would not.  Then, instead of charging a set admission fee that would ordinarily go back to the organization, the Young Professionals promote a suggested donation amount at the door.  All donations collected from the evening’s event are then given to the identified organization.

So far, the Richmond Young Professionals have utilized this event framework to host three Pub Trivia nights and raise a few hundred dollars for Arts Richmond and the Hamlet Train Depot and Museums.

“RYP’s pub trivia nights have been a great way for young people in our community to network and meet fellow young professionals, while also visiting different venues in Richmond County,” remarked organization Co-President, Seth Allen.  “The turn out is always great and people seem to really enjoy themselves.”

On Thursday, April 12th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arts Richmond building in downtown Rockingham, the group of enthusiastic young professionals will hold their fourth Pub Trivia Night.  The event is open to everyone in the community who is over the age of 21, is young at heart, and wants to have a great time while giving back.

The cost of admission will be a suggested $5 donation to Arts Richmond, and will include snacks, beverages, and an evening full of three rounds of trivia curated and hosted by member Stephanie Thornsbury.  A winning team will be determined after each round, with each earning a prize and an advantageous sense of satisfaction as they head into the next round of competition.  However, there can only be one overall winning team who will take home the night’s grand prize and exclusive bragging rights.
