ROCKINGHAM — Crews from Hudson Paving put the finishing touches on the second of two recent resurfacing projects on Wednesday.

New asphalt was laid down on a portion of the public parking lot between Hancock and S. Lawrence streets. The other section is concrete, which was poured in 2015 as part of the project involving Pattan’s Downtown Grille, according to Assistant City Manager John Massey.

Work on the lot started last week with the old paving being pulled up, leaving a few nearby businesses concerned about parking for employees and customers.

Massey said the striping is expected to be done over the weekend, with the lot reopening on Monday.

Hudson Paving recently resurfaced the parking lot across from Hudson Brothers Deli and the downtown campus of Richmond Community College.

The city acquired the parking lot when it purchased the former R.W. Goodman property to construct the downtown campus.

Massey said city crews will complete the landscaping and wheel bumpers for the lot.

It has “been years” since both lots were paved, according to Massey, though he wasn’t sure the exact times.

The contract price for the “Goodman” lot is $91,750 and the cost of the other lot is $75,150, according to Massey. Both projects are being paid for through funds from the American Rescue Plan.
