Like many student-athletes at Richmond, Hood is a dual-enrollment student who splits her time between Richmond’s campus and Richmond Community College.

This semester, she’s enrolled in five classes, two at Richmond and three at RichmondCC. At the high school, Hood is taking Honors English III and AP U.S. Government and Politics.

Over at RichmondCC, Hood is taking Spanish 111, Math 143 (Quantitative Literacy) and Psychology 150 (General Psychology).

She’s currently passing all of her classes with four As and one B — Honors English III (93), AP Gov. (90), Spanish (90), Psychology (93) and Math (84).

Hood also has a cumulative 4.3 GPA and is involved in National Beta Club and the Raider Diamonds Club.

“English is my favorite class because I really enjoy the way Ms. (Ashton) Holmes teaches,” Hood explained. “The way she teaches allows me to comprehend the material.

“We just read The Crucible and it was fun to read that play in roles,” she added. “It really brought the story alive and it taught me things about history I usually don’t enjoy.”

Of taking college level classes as a high school junior, Hood noted that it’s given her a stronger mindset in being able to stay ahead of her course load.

“If I want to be successful later in college and in life, I have to start doing those types of things now,” she said.

Her future academic goals include earning her associate’s degree at RichmondCC before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill. There she would like to major in sports broadcasting and journalism.

“I’d like to be a sports broadcaster, especially for football,” Hood said. “I started a podcast called Talking Tar Heels, which I really enjoy.”
