ROCKINGHAM — Two Scotland County residents are facing drug charges after allegedly being caught with meth, weed and smoking devices.
According to warrants from the Rockingham Police Department dated Nov. 22, 41-year-old Melody Radford, of Laurinburg, was in possession of an unspecified amount of methamphetamine, a half-ounce or less of marijuana and a blue glass pipe.
James Mitchell Hinson, 33, of Laurel Hill, is accused of having an unspecified amount of meth and two glass pipes.
The two were in a 2006 Honda Ridgeline, which police say they used to keep and sell marijuana and meth.
Radford was arrested and charged with one felony count each possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance, as well as one misdemeanor count each of simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hinson is also charged with one felony count each possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Radford and Hinson were both released on a $15,000 unsecured bond and are scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19.
But court records show that’s not Hinson’s only upcoming court date.
He has several traffic charges, including speeding and reckless driving, in Scotland and Union counties. Hinson also has pending drug charges in Scotland County: possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Hinson was given a 12-month suspended sentence Sept. 12 when convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Radford has no other pending charges or previous convictions, according to state records.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
