Rockingham Police cite alleged shoplifter for stealing from Walmart, Dunham’s

ROCKINGHAM — A man was cited for shoplifting from two local retailers after reportedly being caught with pilfered items from both locations.

According to one incident report from the Rockingham Police Department, 30-year-old Frederick Warren Loftis, of Rockingham, was caught Feb. 25 after officers responded to a trespassing call at Dunham’s Sports.

The officer noted that he spoke to the reporting person and the suspect, Loftis. While speaking to Loftis, the officer says he noticed had the items listed as stolen – a pair of gloves and a two-pack micro clip – concealed on his person.

Another incident report states that while Loftis was pulling property out of his pockets, he had property that had been stolen from Walmart, which is listed only as “household items” and valued at $25.44.

According to the report, Loftis agreed to return the stolen property to Walmart.

He was then issued citations and released.

Online court records show Loftis is charged with: stealing, taking and carrying away (property) without consent; as well as shoplifting/concealment of goods and second-degree trespassing.

Loftis is scheduled to appear in court on April 3.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Loftis’ only conviction was in 2017 for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
