Rockingham Police Department: Silver Alert Issued for Missing Senior; Recognize Officers During Annual Award Ceremony

Silver Alert Issued for Missing Woman; Found In Good Condition

ROCKINGHAM – What started out as a leisurely stroll along Hitchcock Creek in Rockingham quickly became a situation of urgency on Sunday, December 17.

A 72 year-old Rockingham woman was reported missing by her family when she failed to return from her walk that afternoon.

With nighttime (and temperatures) falling around 5 p.m., the Rockingham Police Department was notified and immediately commenced a patrol of Hitchcock Creek, concentrating around the area of the park on Steele Street.

A Silver Alert was issued, which is done is cases involving missing elderly persons.

An RPD officer was able to quickly locate the individual who, although appearing to be a bit confused, was otherwise unharmed.

No other details of the incident have been released at this time.

 

RPD Recognizes Officers and Staff at Annual Awards Ceremony

ROCKINGHAM – Quick and decisive action such as was demonstrated in the particular Silver Alert incident has come to characterize the Rockingham Police Department under the leadership of Chief Billy Kelly.

In return, Chief Kelly showed his appreciation for his staff’s diligence with an awards ceremony last week.

Held at Pattan’s Downtown Grille in Rockingham, the event was one in which several officers and staff members were recognized for their outstanding work during the course of 2017.

The following awards were bestowed upon members of the Department:

Telecommunicator of the Year:  Bonnie Melton

Day Shift Officer of the Year:  John Haywood

Night Shift Officers of the Year:  John Decello & Justin Chance

Detective of the Year:  Shawn Paxton

Traffic Officer of the Year:  David Gallops.

Chief Kelly expressed his, “appreciation for the hard work and true dedication to police work that was demonstrated by these individuals throughout the year.”

Kelly also noted that his entire department is exemplary in regard to the manner in which the work of the Rockingham Police Department is conducted on a daily basis.
