Rockingham Police: Man shot and killed entering home

ROCKINGHAM — A man allegedly entering a home was shot and killed late Monday night, according to police.

Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly said Tuesday morning that 26-year-old Rico Joke’a Shelton was found dead when officers arrived to a call of shots fired at a home on Richmond Road behind the Richmond County administration building around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

“Initial investigative efforts indicate that Rico Shelton had made entry into the residence in order to perpetrate a criminal act,” Kelly said in a press release.
