Search for missing Marshville woman centers around Pee Dee River

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators and first responders from the state and three counties were staged at the Rockingham boat landing on the Pee Dee River near the bridge Thursday afternoon searching for a missing woman.

Chief Deputy Mark Gulledge said the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Union County Sheriff’s Office in the case.

According to a statement from UCSO, investigators are looking for 41-year-old Amanda Jo Maske of Marshville.

Investigators say she was reported missing Wednesday after family members were unable to make contact with her for several hours. Maske reportedly left her home Wednesday morning to drive to her job in Raeford.

Family members discovered her unoccupied vehicle Wednesday night parked at Scotty’s Bait and Tackle in eastern Anson County, according to investigators. The Anson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, responded to the location where the vehicle, a white 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee recovered.

“The immediate area around the vehicle was searched with negative results,” reads the statement. “The vehicle was removed from the scene and transported to the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. Personal effects belonging to Maske were located in the vehicle and leads were developed that took investigators back to the Pee Dee River area.”

N.C. Emergency Management, both the Lee and Anson County emergency management departments, Cordova Fire and Rescue and Lilesville Fire Department are also assisting in the search.

Anyone with information about this matter or believes they might have seen Maske or her white Jeep Grand Cherokee anytime yesterday, is encouraged to call the Union or Anson County Sheriff’s Office.
