WADESBORO, NC (Sept. 19, 2018) – Pee Dee Electric reported over 10,000 members without power as Hurricane Florence slowly moved over Pee Dee’s service area Friday, September 14th.
Crews encountered high winds and flooding as they worked to restore power.
By Sunday evening, the number of outages dropped below 2,500, but due to the high winds and heavy rains those numbers increased to 3,170 Monday morning.
By Wednesday evening, 100% of the membership was back online.
“Our number one priority is, and always will be, the safety of our employees and members,” stated Donnie Spivey, CEO at Pee Dee Electric.
“Our crews, along with visiting crews, were working in very difficult weather conditions. Without the help of our fellow co-ops and contract crews, restoring power to our members would have taken much longer. We are beyond grateful for their assistance as well as the dedication of every Pee Dee Electric employee.”
“We thank Pee Dee members for their patience as crews and co-op staff worked to restore power during the storm,” Spivey said. “We received many calls of encouragement and thanks from our members and appreciate their patience during the storm.”
