Sheriff’s office asks for help locating missing Hamlet woman

HAMLET — Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help locating a woman who has reportedly not been seen for more than a month.

Richmond County Crime Stoppers posted a photo to its Facebook Page of 90-year-old Betty Billingsley on Wednesday afternoon alerting Richmond County residents.

Billingsley, who lives alone on Ridgeview Drive in Hamlet, was reported missing Wednesday by the Adult Services Division of the Richmond County Department of Social Services, according to investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say social workers periodically checked on her and when they went today, she was not home.

Although she has not been formally diagnosed, investigators say Billingsley may have been showing early signs of dementia.

The last time anyone had any contact with Billingsley was some time in late February or early March, according to investigators.

Billingsley is an Air Force veteran who frequently walked along N.C. 38 in the Hamlet area, investigators say.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 910-997-8283 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
