Warrant: Man robbed Rockingham store of beer, cigarettes

ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing several robbery charges for allegedly taking beer and cigarettes from a local gas station.

According to an arrest warrant, 28-year-old Travis Norton, of Beaverwood Court, went into a convenience store on Oct. 13 and forcibly took two cases of Michelob Ultra and Newport cigarettes. The warrant did not specify he took a pack or a carton.

Norton apparently returned two more times, taking two more cases of Michelob Ultra and Marlboro cigarettes, then one case of the same brand of beer and Kool cigarettes, according to the warrant.

A different store clerk is named as the victim in each charge and there is only one listed offense date.

Norton was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with three counts of common law robbery. He remains in the Richmond County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

Online jail and court records show Norton is also charged with resisting a public officer, disorderly conduct in a public building and impeding traffic by sitting, standing or lying in a roadway.

He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 31 on the robbery charges and Nov. 14 on the other charges.

Norton was convicted in 2016 of injury to real property and two counts of simple assault, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
