Woman charged in Hamlet larceny

HAMLET — A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing stereo equipment from an auto parts story and refusing to stop for police.

The Hamlet Police Department responded to a call Thursday afternoon in reference to a larceny at Advance Auto Parts, according to Capt. Randy Dover.

The responding officer was told the suspect ran out of the store with a sub-woofer with a four-channel amplifier, Dover said. A description of the getaway vehicle was given as a white passenger car.

A Hamlet PD officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver sped off, Dover said. The department has a no-chase policy, he added.

The vehicle was eventually stopped by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at Mill Road Grocery.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Hayley Kristine Williams of Clover Hill Road, Ellerbe.

The Hamlet Police Department charged Williams with one count each of attempted larceny, aiding and abetting larceny, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, and failing to heed a light or siren, online court records show.

Richmond County Jail records show the sheriff’s office has charged Williams with two counts of possession of stolen goods.

She was jailed under a combined $11,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 22 on the Hamlet charges.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Williams was convicted of maintaining any place for a controlled substance in January of 2017.

Three months later, she was convicted on two counts of possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
