LAURINBURG — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ golf team had to wait an extra couple of days to play this week’s match at Scotch Meadows Country Club because of rain on Monday.

The six Raiders hit the links Wednesday in Laurinburg, and remained consistent on the season with their fifth-straight fifth-place finish. Richmond’s top four golfers combined to shoot a 357, just 19 strokes behind fourth-place finisher and host Scotland High School.

Sandhills Athletic Conference leader Pinecrest High School earned its fifth win of the spring, shooting a 298 (+10) on the afternoon. Purnell Swett High School finished second (328), Jack Britt High School placed third (334) and Scotland took fourth (338).

Behind the Raiders was Hoke County High School (sixth, 402), and Seventy-First and Lumberton high schools did not participate in the team competition.

Sophomore Jonathan Rich notched an 82 (+10) to lead the Raiders on the scorecard. Junior Noah Altman had a career day, shooting an 88 (+16). Over the past couple of matches, Altman has seen his score drop, his most recent posting four strokes less than his last outing.

Rich shot a 42 (+6) on the front nine, and finished with a 40 (+4) on the back. Altman posted a team-best 41 (+5) on the opening nine holes, and closed with a 47 (+11) on the back.

“All in all, we had a good day,” head coach Keith Parsons said. “Noah had his career-best round and hit some great shots. It’s definitely something to build on.

“Jonathan had an up-and-down round, with some spectacular play at times,” he added.

The other two Raiders to see their scores added to the team competition were sophomores Carter Richardson and Jacob Puckett. Richardson finished the day with a score of 91, shooting a 45 (+9) and a 46 (+10), with Puckett right behind him with a 96 (45, 51).

Sophomores Jaxon Mabe and Evan McFayden also competed at Scotch Meadows, shooting scores of 98 and 114. Respectively.

“We have one more regular season match remaining,” Parsons concluded. “I’m anxious to see how everyone plays.”

The SAC regular-season finale will be held at Pinehurst No. 6 on Monday, April 15. Tee times are set for 2 p.m.
