“SETTING UP PLAYS” WITH AVA EDMONDSON

Playing a trio of home matches to start the season last week, Edmondson and the Lady Raiders notched wins against Harnett Central and Pine Forest high schools. Their loss came to Montgomery Central High School.

To start the season, the Lady Raiders swept Harnett Central in straight sets by a final score of 3-0. In that match, Edmondson led the team with 19 assists (6.3 assists per set).

She also committed no ball handling errors, added four digs on defense, had two aces from the serving line and chipped in one kill at the net.

Richmond fell in four sets to Montgomery Central, but Edmondson’s “consistent play” according to head coach Ashleigh Larsen helped the team bounce back against Pine Forest on Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders closed their opening week of play with a 3-0 win over the Lady Trojans, with Edmondson making several assists that led to quick points.

Richmond (2-1) will travel to Montgomery Central on Tuesday and Uwharrie Charter Academy on Thursday. Both matches will start at 6 p.m.

Sports editor’s note: Official team statistics were not yet available for Richmond’s matches against Montgomery Central and Pine Forest at the time of publication.
